«Jeepers Creepers» – Captivating horror

This year's Labor Day weekend in the USA saw one movie become the surprise hit of the end of the summer's movie season: «Jeepers Creepers». This horror flick, aimed at a young audience, unexpectedly made it to the top of the box office charts, recouping its 10 million dollar budget.

The movie tells of the siblings Trish and Darryl, who get involved in a creepy story on their way through America's hinterland. They come upon a truck driver who first tries to force them off the road and then throws a mysterious load into a shaft by a solitary building. As the two siblings look down into the shaft, a horrifying discovery sets the scene for the beginning of a nightmare. «Jeepers Creepers» presents a refreshingly directed horror trip and rightly emerged as the audience favorite during the German Fantasy Filmfest 2001. Director Viktor Salva consciously avoided making a simple teen slasher movie and instead serves up a deftly mixed suspense cocktail that cleverly uses elements of Steven Spielbergs «Duel» and «Texas Chainsaw Massacre».

«Jeepers Creepers» comes to Swiss theatres at the beginning of 2002.
