After the loss of Anthony Quinn 3 weeks ago comes the sad news that another great actor, Jack Lemmon, has died of cancer in Los Angeles.

Jack Lemmon is gone

Hollywood and movie world in general is mourning one of history's greatest actors, Jack Lemmon. Onstage for almost 50 years, this fantastic actor – and jazz pianist in his spare time – leaves behind an impressive career, during which he received a large number of various awards. Among them are 2 best actor awards at Cannes, in 1979 and 1982, for «The China Syndrome» and «Missing», 2 awards from the Venice Film Festival for «Short Cuts» (which the entire cast received) and «Glengarry Glen Ross» in 1993, 8 Oscar nominations with 2 wins for «Save the Tiger» in 1974 and for «Mister Roberts» in 1955, and no less than 19 Golden Globe nominations, with 4 wins! In addition to the titles already mentioned, he will without a doubt be remembered for his superb performances in such magnificent films as «Some Like it Hot», «The Apartment», «The Fortune Cookie», «Avanti», and «Irma la Douce» – all directed by his friend Billy Wilder – as well as in Oliver Stone's «JFK», and especially Ettore Scola's «Maccheroni», in which he teamed up unforgettably with Marcello Mastroianni.
