Anthony Quinn is deceased

3 marriages, 13 children, more than 150 films – out of which he won 2 Oscars – made during a career that spanned a total of almost 65 years! These are the essential facts regarding the life of one of America's most distinguished actors of the last 50 years.

It was in 1936 that Quinn began appearing discretely in minor roles, often playing the part of Indians or Latinos in Warner productions. This soon lead to him being awarded an Oscar for his role in «Viva Zapata» in 1952 in which he starred alongside Marlon Brando. The film catapulted Quinn into the ranks of truly great stars. During the course of the 1950s and 60s, filming in the United States, France and in Italy, he literally explodes in classic such as «Lust for Life» in which he plays the part of Paul Gauguin (opposite Kirk Douglas as Van Gogh) and for which he carries off a second Oscar; «La strada», the classic by Fellini, «Warlock», «The Guns of Navarone», «Lawrence d'Arabie», «Barabbas» or indeed «A High Wind in Jamaica». But it is in his role as a larger than life Greek that Quinn, (son of an Irishman and a Mexican mother!) approaches true genius in the sublime «Alexis Zorbas». After a lull period during the 1970s in which he appears in B series of no particular distinction, Quinn resurfaces in the 90s, starring in «Last Action Hero» with Arnold Schwarzenegger, «Revenge» with Kevin Costner, «A Walk in th Clouds» alongside Keanu Reeves and most notably the excellent «Jungle Fever» by Spike Lee. We are already missing his exuberant smile and his characters full of humanity…
