7 years in prison for John Rambo

Di, 19.02.2008, Constantin Xenakis

Outraged by the fact that the famous character played for the 5th time by Sylvester Stallone should dare to defend the Karen minority and defy its bloody army, Burmese authorities have outlawed the commercialization of «John Rambo» and threatened with prison all those who distribute the forbidden DVD on the black market.

In this war movie, the pumped actor paints a true and overpowering picture of the soldiers of the dictatorship, which has ruled since 1990.

Who would have thought that this ultra-violent movie, with its hundreds of dead and multitudinous explosions, should become a tool in the fight against the junta by the democratic activists following Aung San Suu Kyi, 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner and supporter of non-violence, who is currently under house arrest in Rangoon?

The opponents of the brutal regime would love to get their hands on a copy of Stallone's movie to show, a least on film, the violent death of a great number of Burmese soldiers, especially since one of their key members, Pado Manh Shade, was executed last week by them.

7 years in prison for a copy of «Rambo»? Perhaps another drastic measure against Internet piracy?
