Famous for her role as Eleanor Ewing in the cult TV series «Dallas», the mother of JR and Bobby Ewing, actress Barbara Bel Geddes has died at 82 from lung cancer.

Before gaining global recognition for her role in in the cult TV series «Dallas», where she played the mother of JR and Bobby Ewing, actress Barbara Bel Geddes began her career at age 25 in 1947 alongside Henry Fonda in «The Long Night». A year later she was nominated for an Oscar for «I Remember Mama», directed by George Stevens. In 1950 she appeared in the stage classic «Cat on a Hot Tin Roof» and in the Alfred Hitchcock vehicle «Vertigo» in 1958. While continuing her Broadway career in the 1960's, Bel Geddes turned to TV, which culminated in her signature part in the 80's as Eleanor Ewing. Barbara Bel Geddes died at 82 from lung cancer in the small town of Mount-Desert, Maine.
