Another sci-fi classic remake is in its way

The new Steven Spielberg movie «Minority Report» with superstar Tom Cruise will open soon in the US, and the two plan to collaborate yet again next year on a second project.

As reported in the trade paper «Variety», Steven Spielberg is due to direct the remake of H.G. Wells' science fiction classic «The War of the Worlds», being produced by Tom Cruise and his production partner Paula Wagner. The Paramount Pictures movie will be shot in 2003.

H.G. Wells' 1898 science fiction opus, «The War of the Worlds deals with a terrestrial attack by Martians. In 1938, a radio production of the story by Orson Welles caused panic throughout the USA, as audiences believed the »news reports" of a Martian invasion they were hearing were real. In 1953, the first movie version of H. G. Wells' book was filmed by Byron Haskins and has since become a great sci-fi classic.
