Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Movie Rating: Geoffrey Crété

Having just escaped the maze, Thomas and the other survivors of the Bloc discover that WICKED, the organization for the nightmare, is frantically searching for a vaccine to fight a mysterious virus ravaging the planet. Chased by soldiers and taken to a secure complex, they soon realize that Ava Paige isn’t finished with them. They again decide to escape and join the rebels, but first they will have to cross the scorched earth, which is inhabited by bloodthirsty humans changed by the virus…

Like its cousins Beautiful Creatures, The Host and The Giver, movies that are so bad they’re good, The Maze Runner could and should have just been a one-off. But the box-office wants what it wants, and audiences that flocks to see movies like this get what they pay for: a second installment that’s even dumber than the first. Obvious and repetitive plot twists are evenly spaced along the tedious way and articulated around boring characters. While there is hope at the beginning that it might turn into a zombie movie that borrows from the very good video game The Last of Us, unfortunately Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials devolves way down to an incredibly stupid and chatty ending that leaves you wanting less.
