Vincent Machot leads a predictable life in a small town, his daily life playing out in the hair salon he inherited from his father, seeing to the needs of his meddling mother, hanging out with his best and only friend, with memories of a vague love story with a girl in Paris. Then he crosses paths with Rosalie Blum. Convinced he has already met her and intrigued by her solitude, he decides to follow her from afar, to get to know her and pierce her mystery...

Julien Rappenea has not come out of nowhere: the son of Jean-Paul, director of the celebrated Cyrano de Bergerac and The Horseman on the Roof, he has co-written many successful films (36 quai des orfèvres, Cloclo, Largo Winch). Taking his first modest steps as a filmmaker, he aims for the lightness and typically low-key sensitivity of independent American cinema: off-beat, marginal characters struggle against normalcy with humor that is tinged with sadness. Rappenea perfectly fulfills his mission thanks to a funny and original story that is skillfully told. With a charming trio of actors (Kyan Khojandi, Noémie Lvovsky and Alice Isaaz), Rosalie Blum is seductive, amusing and touching. It’s too bad, however, that the script is more simplistic and safe than his last one.

Kino wie es sein soll. Schön, spannend, lustig, traurig, überraschend und anregend um nach dem Film darüber zu sprechen.
Konnte das Meisterwerk im Rahmen des French Film Festivals in Neuseeland sehen.
