A 10-year-old boy travels across the States to accept an award for one of his inventions.

A boy who's passionate about science, T.S. Spivet invents a machine of perpetual motion in the course of his research. When the Smithsonian Institute offers him a prize, he feels obligated to turn it down, considering he lives all the way out in Montana on his parents' ranch. Plus, he's only 10 years old... But after the accidental death of his twin, T.S. feels guilty and decides to go on an adventure across America to accept his award in Washington, packing both his curiosity and his remorse. He leaves behind his cowboy dad, his entomologist mom and a sister who's obsessed with beauty pageants...

The adventures of “The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet” in 3D are astonishingly flat, at least as far as plot twists are concerned. It's an unimaginative epic about nothing more interesting than a kid on a train. The only saving grace are the beautiful images of the American countryside – but even these strike a somewhat false note, given that they were actually filmed in Western Canada.
