Grace is only just an adult herself but works in a group home for troubled adolescents. Every new phenomenon in American independent film must be taken with a grain of salt, due to the quantity of flops hyped by premature buzz. Pushed by critics for a year, Short Term 12 is a refreshing exception to this rule. Funny, tragic, moving and surprising, Destin Cretton’s debut lights up every color of the human rainbow with remarkable sincerity.
