A humorous tour of Rome’s working conditions through the eyes of a temp worker.

An entertaining diagnosis of the systematic problems within Italian society. In this comedy that only slightly challenges the limits of the absurd or surreal, an experienced and determined 40-year-old temp worker gets all kinds of strange assignments from a dubious Mafioso for the companies he temps at. Antonio Pane cleans, delivers pizza, hangs posters at night, helps out on construction sites, chauffeurs a tram – and much more. These quick looks at a variety of workplaces also offer a view of serious abuses, but the always friendly and helpful Pane masterfully handles these many encounters with a series of different people, even when it’s his ex-wife and her new husband.

Especially Italy has been greatly changed by the economic crisis and globalization – and not for the better. Gianni Amelio has invented a hilarious temp ready to replace anyone on the job – no matter what industry. He uses Pane to test the depths of economic conditions and private relationships. Antonio Albanese is impressive in the lead, as are the images of deplorable working conditions and desolate social conditions.
