Louise, back in Le Havre after a business trip to China, finds her neighborhood in an uproar over an atrocious crime committed on the floor below hers. The victim, a young 20-year-old woman, was savagely beaten in the street and finished off in the hallway of the building. Everyone claims not to have seen or heard a thing, and the investigation seems stalled until Pierre, Louise's fiancé, changes his story.
