In a small Minnesota town, Blu is a macaw who's been the pet of a little girl all his life. One day he meets Jewel, the last female of their kind and they go off to Rio to save their species from extinction. But nothing goes as planned: Jewell is focused on getting her freedom and looks down on Blu as a domestic pet. But when they're kidnapped by a bird trafficker, the two team up for real.
