A photographer is charged with taking a young tourist back to the US from a region in Mexico infested with aliens.

Sent by NASA to gather samples of alien life in our solar system, a probe crashes in Central America on its way home, releasing new and potentially dangerous life forms into the region. The army is deployed into the jungle, but is unable to stamp out the phenomenon... Soon all of northern Mexico is placed under quarantine. A photographer agrees to escort his boss' daughter across this infected zone in an attempt to get her home safely to the States.

Internet buzz is calling this the new District 9, thanks in part to its unrealistic budget of supposedly 15,000 euros, but Monsters has little in common with Neill Blomkamp's ground-breaking sci-fi flick. And the plot has less to do with sci-fi than romance, which develops between the two leads on their road-trip through the jungle and ends in a big emotional scene that passes for a conclusion.
