La rafle

11-year-old Joseph wants to live a normal life with his family, despite the war and the deprivation that comes with it, despite the yellow star sown onto their clothes, despite the omnipresent anti-Semitism. The Jewish community on the hill of Montmartre in occupied Paris still feels safe, until the morning of July 16, 1942, when 13,000 of them, mainly women and children, are brutally rounded up by police and herded into the Vélodrome d'Hiver. From there, they are sent to French concentration camps before being sent on to the extermination camps in Germany. This extremely well documented film by Rose Bosch tells a powerful story of absolute horror and is especially moving thanks to its focus on people, both victims and executioners, who really existed.
