Die Fremde
A young, Turkish single mother goes her own way, alienating her traditional family.
Umay flees with her son from her violent husband from Istanbul to Berlin, where she grew up, and where her parents and siblings live according to Turkish traditions. But instead of offering her love and shelter, Umay's family doesn't understand her desire for self-determination, resulting in a deadly conflict between honor and freedom.
Austrian director Feo Aladag's movie is impressively sensitive and nuanced, and lead Sibel Kekilli's performance is a triumph.
