Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage
Belgian animated film in which Samy, a young turtle, crosses the oceans to find his love.
Samy has only just come out of his shell, but the adventure is underway already! He is attacked by a bird, and then meets and saves the girl of his dreams. When he is separated from her, he takes his friend Ray along across the ocean in search of her. From the Amazon to Antarctica, Samy discovers the world, friendship, danger, and humans - those who damage the planet and those who spend their lives trying to save it.
While the kiddies will love the cute little turtle, adults may not find the story all that exciting. But never mind: the animation, the iridescent colors and the impressive depth of field are amazing to look at. The ecological message is both dosed well enough for children to understand and not heavy or moralizing. By Belgian director Ben Stassen; the English voices include Tim Curry, Melanie Griffith and Isabelle Fuhrman.
