Departures
After the dissolution of the Tokyo orchestra where he worked for years as a cellist, Daigo Kobayashi sells his instrument and returns to his village in the countryside of northern Japan. There he lives with his wife in his deceased mother's house. When he sees a job ad for "Departures", he thinks it's a travel agency and applies, but once there Daigo realizes the job is to prepare dead bodies for their funerals. At first embarrassed by his new position especially after seeing the shame it causes his wife, Daigo comes to love his new profession, realizing he has a talent for preparing his fellow human beings on their ultimate voyage. Moving tragicomedy that won the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 2008 over the favorite Waltz With Bashir.
